Grades K-2 This entry in Crabtree's All Kinds of People series (4 titles) joins the plethora of books about family diversity. What makes this one different is that, rather than adopting a purely celebratory tone, it tackles some of the trickier moments of being in families, such as the awkwardness of adjusting to each other within blended families or the transience of being in a foster family. Other issues include sibling rivalry, busy families who rely on babysitters or grandparents for care, and chosen families made up of members who are not biologically connected. The illustrations feature all manner of diversity, rendered in vibrant colors and uncomplicated settings. Ultimately, the message is one that calls attention to differences in family structures in order to normalize those differences.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
