Michael Kramer is familiar with the late Jordan's writing, having narrated (together with Kate Reading) the epic series The Wheel of Time. Now his first novel has finally been published. A forward to the audiobook by his widow and editor explains the delay of 40 years. This plot foreshadows some of the unique cosmology of The Wheel of Time, but it is a stand-alone audiobook with no direct relationship to that series. With his distinctive style, Kramer delineates an unforgiving and brutal world. He evokes the banter and sardonic humor of men who have fought together and are prepared to die together. He is equally adept at portraying powerful women. An expert in depicting battles, he varies pace and intensity to maintain interest. J.E.M. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine
