"Narrator Grover Gardner provides the perfect intonations for this audiobook...This audiobook is for anyone who likes mysteries—and dogs, of course." — AudioFile Magazine
In Rescued, David Rosenfelt again delights listeners with the charm and wit they've come to expect. Even the most fervent fans of the sardonic Andy Carpenter and his team will be enthralled by this latest case, where the stakes have never been higher.

Defense lawyer Andy Carpenter is reluctant to take on any more cases. He'd much rather spend his time working for his dog rescue organization, the Tara Foundation, than find himself back in a courtroom. However, when a truck carrying over seventy dogs from the South to the rescue-friendly northeast turns up with a murdered driver, Andy can't help but get involved.
Of course Andy is eager to help the dogs, many of whom come to the Tara Foundation while awaiting forever homes – it's the man accused of murder who he has a problem defending. The accused just happens to be his wife Laurie's ex-fiance; her tall, good looking, ex-Marine ex-fiance. Even though he acknowledges having argued with the victim, he swears that he is not a killer, and though he would rather not, Andy has to admit he believes he's telling the truth.
For Andy, even with dozens of successful cases behind him, this case that his wife insists he take may prove to be his most difficult.

In Edgar-finalist Rosenfelt’s cleverly plotted 17th mystery featuring Paterson, N.J., defense lawyer and dog rescuer Andy Carpenter (after 2017’s Collared), Andy gets a call about 61 dogs found in a tractor trailer parked at a rest stop on the Garden State Parkway. Andy later learns that the trailer’s driver, Kenny Zimmer, has been shot and that the shooter is his wife Laurie’s ex-boyfriend, former cop and sometime PI Dave Kramer. Kramer admits to the fatal shooting, but claims he acted in self-defense after Zimmer attacked him with a knife. Andy reluctantly agrees to defend Kramer, but it won’t be easy, especially when a knife isn’t found at the crime scene. It looks like a setup or maybe a hit gone wrong, and Andy’s digging soon puts him in the crosshairs of some very bad people. Andy is an affable, funny narrator, and his Nick and Nora–like banter with Laurie, a highly capable ex-cop, leavens the dark deeds they uncover. Series fans and newcomers alike will have fun. Narrator Grover Gardner provides the perfect intonations for this audiobook. Rosenfelt's latest in his Andy Carpenter series puts his hero in a unique situation--defending his wife's ex, who has been accused of murder. Gardner's breezy first-person narration of this mystery provides Carpenter's perspective. And while the few women in the audiobook are not differentiated as well as they could be, Gardner creates a fully dimensional character for the protagonist, emphasizing Carpenter's sarcasm and glib comments. His beer-drinking pals are given deep yet distinctive voices. And there's a rescued bunch of dogs that figure into the case. This audiobook is for anyone who likes mysteries--and dogs, of course.
