Gr 2-3-A straightforward, matter-of-fact biography. After an introduction to "Pioneer Days," eight double-page chapters cover Wilder's life from her birth in 1867 to her death in 1957. Each spread features large-print text and a captioned photograph, many in the sepia tones of early photography. A few are a bit faded, lending authenticity. More recent photos are in full-color. Lots of white space enables readers to focus on content and pictures. Words in bold print are defined in the glossary. Libraries owning Alexandra Wallner's Laura Ingalls Wilder (Holiday, 1997), Sarah Glassock's Laura Ingalls Wilder (RSVP, 1998), and William Anderson's Pioneer Girl (HarperCollins, 1998) may not need an additional title, but those with high demand for material on Wilder may want to consider it.-Kathleen Simonetta, Indian Trails Public Library District, Wheeling, IL

Brief biographies supply basic facts about the authors, touch on the creative impulse that inspired them to write and illustrate, and provide minimal information about their books. Illustrated with black-and-white and color photos, the books are blandly written and far from complete (only two Wilder titles are even cited by name in that volume). Each book contains a list of pertinent websites. Glos., ind.
