Gr 4-8-This series is a good resource on natural disasters-the math is an added bonus. Each book contains engaging text that is full of current scientific information and specific facts about recent occurrences. Tornadoes begins with the deadly tornadoes that struck Joplin, MO, on May 22, 2011, while Tsunamis opens with a description of the March 11, 2011, tsunami in Japan. Readers will also learn about historical events. For example, Volcanic Eruptions describes how an eruption in Indonesia 1883 was heard 2000 miles away. Text boxes contain additional information, such as "Life & Career Skills" and "Learning & Innovation Skills." In addition, "Real World Math Challenge" boxes contain math problems that are difficult yet realistic (answers are in the back). There are numerous, well-selected photos. Overall, these volumes are valuable additions to libraries.
